Kitchen Sink Mats Protect Your Stainless Steel

A very inexpensive product, kitchen sink mats, can keep your expensive stainless steel or cast iron sinks from getting scratched up and damaged. They usually are made out of rubber, such as are made by Rubbermaid, but many other manufacturers also make them such as Oxo's model 1307930 which is a 16.5 x 12.75 inch sink mat. They're flexible, so they will fit well inside your sink, and installation is easy.

If you live in a farmhouse, kitchen sink mats will protect your sinks and keep cast iron pans from denting the stainless steel. It's easy to think that stainless steel is absolutely unable to be dented because it is so tough, but also because of the strength, once it gets a dent, there's no way that that dent will ever come out again.

Kitchen sink mats come in many colors, but they oftentimes are white or gray. They protect the sink surface and keep glasses from breaking if they hit too hard on the bottom of the sink. When you work in the kitchen, you want handy grips to be on the sides of the mats so you can easily remove them from the sink. Because the plastic is tapered on the edges, it can be very difficult to lift them by their edge. If they have a hole there, you'll be able to lift it with ease.

Also called 'sink protector mats', kitchen sink mats such as the Rubbermaid Antimicrobial Large Drain Boards, can help protect the area under the dish drainer so that area isn't stained by residues which drip off the dishes. If you have hard water in your area, the constant dripping that occurs after you've washed dishes will start building up on the stainless steel. A mat will protect that from occurring. If it does occur, though, a lime-away kind of product will dissolve the residues. You can also try pouring vinegar on the surface. Let it set for fifteen minutes, then wash away. Vinegar, being acetic acid, will quickly dissolve lime because lime is calcium carbonate, which is easily dissolved with acids.

Rubbermaid has other mats such as their antimicrobial Drain Hole kitchen sink mats, or their Enhanced Sink Mats. Their Sinkware Set With Scrub Brush is a good companion set to their Rubbermaid Drain Boards. They come in black, red, or white.

Rubbermaid also has a sink divider mat which is made out of rubber that protects the center support between the two sinks and is another version of kitchen sink mats. It is oftentimes where we place heavy pots in order to drain them, so it's easy to drop the pan on that area too hard, causing dents. I use pressure cooker, which is very heavy when it's filled to the brim (which I oftentimes do). My stainless steel sink has its biggest dent right there, just because of that problem.
